5-Day Tanzania Safari Itinerary: Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater & Mto wa Mbu
Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive to Tarangire National Park, known for its scenic landscapes, ancient baobab trees, and large elephant herds. The Tarangire River, a lifeline for many animals, runs through the park. Enjoy a picnic lunch and an extended game drive. Later, drive to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Tarangire – Serengeti National Park (via Ngorongoro)
After breakfast, drive toward Serengeti National Park via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Stop for a picnic lunch en route. Arrive in the Serengeti in the afternoon and enjoy game viewing as you drive through the park. Continue the safari until sunset before heading to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti National Park
Spend the day exploring the endless plains of the Serengeti. You may begin with an early morning game drive (optional) to catch predators in action. Watch for lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, and possibly the wildebeest migration, depending on the season. Enjoy a hot or picnic lunch, then continue game viewing into the evening. Return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater Tour
After an early breakfast and with a packed lunch, depart Serengeti and drive to the Ngorongoro Crater. Descend into the crater for a full-day game drive in one of Africa’s Seven Natural Wonders. Spot a wide range of wildlife including rhinos, lions, hyenas, zebras, and wildebeests. Lunch will be by a lakeshore inside the crater. After the tour, ascend to the crater rim for dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
Day 5: Ngorongoro – Mto wa Mbu Cultural Tour – Arusha
After breakfast, drive to Mto wa Mbu for a guided cultural tour. Walk through banana and rice plantations, visit local artists from the Makonde tribe, enjoy views of Lake Manyara and a waterfall, and explore a traditional Maasai village. After the tour, return to Arusha for your final overnight stay.
